Since the beginning of the year I’ve been lucky to have found myself an awesome place to go and get pissed. It’s a stones throw from my flat in Sydney, it’s always got a great vibe, and they even let me play my own records, which is nice.

Anyway, I’ve been having such a laugh playing there recently, I thought I’d put together a little mix of some of the more raucus tunes that have gotten people shaking their tail feathers. Music To Ride Skateboards To…

Soundtrack to a whizzplank session.

I was brought up on skateboarding videos, music wise. The mid 90′s through to mid 2000′s were a hot pot of discovery for me, as I watched 411VM religiously, and wore out the copy of Girl Skateboards ‘Mouse’ (and many others) I had on VHS from to many re-runs. The skating, of course, was what I was primarily interested in at the time, but 15 years on, it’s the soundtracks to those vids that still stays with me.

So this is kind of a tribute to that era of skateboarding video. It’s not particularly well mixed, and it takes a pretty drastic genre change from hiphop to old rock and punk, metal and other bits. To be honest, I was going to spend ages polishing it up and putting loads of crazy soundbites in, but then, partly due to laziness, I’ll admit, I thought I’d just get it online in it’s roughest form. It is, after all, designed to be listened to whilst rolling around on a skateboard, not dissected for technical mixing ability.

A Mixtape in 2 Parts comes to it’s conclusion…

I posted the first half of this mixtape idea a while back – basically the premise is pretty simple – a two part mixtape, one half to make you jump up and down, and then a comedown mix, for you to, well, come down to. This one’s all laid back nice hip hop / reggae / soul / beats from across the past 40 or so years, and I really like it.

“MOVE” mixtape – Part 1 of 2

So here’s the idea – a mixtape in two parts.

The first part “MOVE” is a little wilder than my normal tapes – it’s all jump up party tunes, starting off with some tasty little hiphop remixes, and steadily building pace and bounce-a-bility until the end, where a few choice cuts of drum and bass finish things off. It’s a great one to have on whilst you get ready to go out raving.

It’s HOT IN HERE!

So, in 42 degree heat, with one turntable and my trusty Serato humming away, I knocked out this little collection of things I’ve been listening too recently in one hit. Not that I’m making excuses, but there’s a couple of mixes that could be better, but shit, the idea of sweating in my front room doing another take doesn’t fill me with joy – you’ll have to wait for cooler weather for me to do that.
